dvd with 0.8.0 doesn't work

Postby guest » 04 Nov 2004 12:28

i just installed vlc 0.8.0
and tried to play a dvd, but it doesn't work

with 0.7.2, i had the same problem

the only improvement in 0.8.0 is that the menu's are working now
but when i try to start the film, the whole program crashes.

some bonus materials on the dvd are working, but the main movie not.

i tried the "dvd with menus" and without (simple) funktions

what's wrong ?

hi there,

exactly the same problem i had when i tested 0.8.0. i never uninstalled a program so fast...
also i tried to play an XVID-movie (a52-codec) and all i got (after two crashes) was picture, music and background sound. no more speech.

well - no thank you guys. i'll give it a try again, if there's a new update. until then i'll stay with 0.7.2 (which i love!)

Yes. Me too, I experienced the same problems. VLC 0.8.0 crashes and it does not render sound properly. I had to revert to test2. Settign the audio device to 2 front 2 rear, gives a better rendering of the sound than 5.1.

With 0.8.0, I am not able to see most movies properly. The total tiem of the movie is not displayed properly too.

Guess there is a problem with this build.

You guys might want to give a bit more info, like what OS revision you're running, DVD drive model, etc...
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

I'm running OS 10.3.6 on a G5 dual 2.5, and VLC 0.8.0 crashes upon startup. I've tried to play two different R2 DVDs; one simply crashes outright and the other shows its language menu, but then freezes after you click your option. Trying to manually move the "play" slider crashes the program.
