Preload / Stream / Buffer playback

Postby phil989 » 30 Oct 2008 20:44

I use a Windows computer to store a load of films. I tend to watch them on laptops running OS X connected to the same network as the Windows PC, but sometimes the network has trouble keeping up with the data.

This sounds so simple, all i want VLC to do is load some of the file before playback, like with YouTube videos.

Is this possible, and if so, which settings do i change to teach VLC some pacience?
I've tried changing the setting "Input / Codecs => Other Codecs => FFmpeg => Rate control buffer size" to 5000, but that hasn;t helped. Should i try a higher value maybe?

Thanks,

Phil
