I just verified and the OSX version definetly has A52 support. So something else is going wrong (accessing audio card or something).

Hi!

This is what happens when trying to open a DVD or an avi file with A52 soundtrack.

Video ok, Audio set do Audio Device 0: Digital A/52 -> no sound at all
When cheanging to Audio Device 1: Stereo PCM I get a only noise from that audio device ant then the application crashes or like last time a get a kernel panic. It's definitely a problem when accessing a device.

I'm getting exactly the same - message "main: cannot add user channel mixer a52tofloat32" comes up.
Audio Device 0: Digital A/52 -> no sound at all
Audio Device 1: Stereo PCM -> application crash

dunno what the problem is.

VLC 0.8.1, OS X 10.3.6

i found that i get sound in ac3 movies with my iMac G5 if i first unplug optical cable then start vlc with movie. at this time sound comes from internal speakers. then i plug optical back and sound comes from receiver. No 5.1 but still better than no sound.
