it is possible to save a stream to h264 volumes?

I want to take a input (file or live stream) and save it to the disk but in volumes, like 001.avi, 002.avi, 003.avi, etc, with the same duration each, using h264, is this possible using VLC? if it doesn't, do u know how to do it?
