How do you display .sub/.idx subtitles?

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

How do you display .sub/.idx subtitles?

Anyone know how to use VLC to play XVID files that have subtitles in .sub/.idx format?

I'm using a Mac so I have no idea how to properly view these files... I know that a few PC players can play these files just fine.

you need vlc version 0.8.0-test2 or later
