Slow playback and audio pitch
Is it possible have VLC playback audio without altered pitch when slowing the video?

Yes. use scaletempo filter.

Note that this filter is enabled by default on 1.0.0 development versions, but it's disabled for now by default in 0.9.* because it was not tested thoroughly enough yet.
