VLC and Modile Internet (3g, 4g Networks)

Postby BS_ENG » 08 Sep 2008 00:03

Hi to everybody!

VLC is a great tool! I used it for streaming H264 from point2point and it is great with cable/fiber networks.
The question is... why it is impossible to stream (HTTP Protocol) over mobile internet?

There is something with the providers (that is for sure). IT is not possible to ping at the mobile's IP, but how a web browser can have ( TX/RX ) from
mobile internet?
Is there any solution (setting, special port) to stream http from mobile (3g, HSPA) internet connection? :(

Does anybody knows the browser's listen port?

P.S. I had tried thru openVPN but either openVPN works ok with mobile internet.
P.S. I had tried the 80 port but it was a failure.

Most (if not all) operators do not allow incoming connections, to protect their legacy business model, and to unsolicited IP traffic from being charged to the non-flat-rate customers.

Rémi i want to thank you for your' help.

I've contacted with my mobile internet provider and the allowed me to use VPN, so i tried VLC over openVPN the only problem now is that because of the
encapsulation of the streaming data into VPN the upload for a 64kbps stream is about 256kbps a the mobile internet connection. So the only solutions that
partically works is the RTP streaming direcly to the receivers IP (thru router using NAT port forwarding). I was wondering if is exist any trick to use HTTP streaming (because it has error corection in case of lost package) using HSUPA (mobile internet upload) and standart PSTN dial-up modem for the incoming package. The opposite of the one-way sattelite internet.

P.S. Does any body knows where i can find pseudo-code of FFmpeg?

Thank you guys. Great job.
