Postby de_jeffers » 12 Jul 2008 18:20

hi,

i tried to stream something with vlc,... and i used these settings:
encapsulation method: mpeg 1
video codec: mp1v, 1024 bitrate
audio codec: mp3, 128 kb/s
and ofcourse .mpeg file ...

now i tried to burn this on a dvd+R and play it on my stand-alone dvd player
and it only plays video, and no audio ...

can someone help me please ??

oke, i think i got it..

it's probably because with mpeg1, the audio works on a different frequency with vcd then with dvd ...

It seems I'm facing a similar problem after converting a video from MPEG-4 to MPEG-1.

Video works but no audio when played with VideoLAN.

However, if same video played by any other player (e.g. Windows Media Player), everything works, audio and video.

Any clue?

Probably the dvd player expects the audio to be be mp2 (mpeg-1 audio layer 2) wich is the standar for vcds, btw, and when it finds mp3 on it's place it goes bannanas. Not sure if it'll work with bitrates below the vcd standard (224 kbps), but you might give it a go. If I remember correctly, in vlc's streaming dialog window the audio codec is called 'mpa2'. Check the standard at wikipedia just in case.

It is easier to convert to vcd-like mpeg with avidemux, as it have a couple of buttons that instantly add the necessary video filters (resize and black bars).
