vlc disappears

VLC has disappeared,I'm sorry for this dumb {probably} question but I recently had 3 power outages in a row while I was watching a movie and the VLC screen appeared to zip off to the left side of the screen and disappear.I have attempted to reboot several times but the screen won"t come back although the sound is there.Am I missing something totally obvious? Sorry for being such a newby but I don't ever want to go back to media player I just want to fix my error.Should I uninstall and re-install VLC or is there a simple fix that I'm missing

VLC version: OVER 9000!!!
Operating System: It's...blue screen
Location: Heaven? No no. What's that other place that starts with an "H"? Oh yes: Home. ^_^

Try resetting the preferences through the Start menu (Start -> All Programs -> VideoLAN -> Quick Settings -> Reset VLC media player preferences and cache files).
