captured ac3 problems

I was wondering when I stream a file to harddrive that is with ac3. it can not be played afterwards with sound. the video plays fine just the audio is damage when you look in the audio properties there are ~20 audio channels then if you search through all these audio channels you will find one that changes the audio menu now they will be listed as 5.1 audio but it still has too many audio channels. perhaps ~20 or more still... well just wondering if this is normal or I am just not streaming it to file properly by missing some extra commands
