server side playlist

Postby peepo » 26 May 2008 17:26

hello, new to forum, and have question about whether vlc can do what I require.

I need a playlist on my server which is running continuously that listeners to my website will hear by clicking on a link & opening it in their desired media player.
Can I install VLC media player on a server & load mp3 files into its playlist (mp3 files will be ina folder on same server) and then hit play & direct listeners to this constantly live playlist? Which means listeners will pick up the audio wherever it is in the playlist.
At the moment I stream from my pc to the server & achieve playlist by having vlc media player running with tracks in playlist. But I want to put everything on the server & have the playlist play from there so my pc can be freed up from streaming all the time.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated :)
