Audio but no video

Postby AdamUK » 21 Apr 2008 18:26

I'm trying to play a .wmv clip using VLC. I get the sound but no video, or even a video window. Just an error message.

Any suggestions?

Adam

Attaching the error msg you got to your post here would be helpful, however: older builds of VLC cannot play WMV 3 files - this might be the reason. VLC builds including 0.8.6 and later can, but only if it doesn't contain DRM material.

This is the error message:

main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMVA'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

Means nothing to me. Any suggestions?

Hiya

the last time this happened it was when i updated quicktime. I put off updating it but have had to again recently but it has caused this lack of video once again.

You could try the quicktime overwrite method (assuming you've updated your quicktime) which i have posted in this thread.

Gonna have to downgrade my quicktime again.
