0.8.6d Quick Update Feature ???

Any idea what happened to the Quick Update Feature accessible in versions 0.8.6d <.
Installed 0.8.6d on 2 XP boxes and neither has the feature. Has it been intentionally removed ? Anyone else with the same issue ?

Do you mean the "Help >> Check for updates" feature? It has been removed. This may be because 0.8.6d is (probably) the last version of the 0.8.x releases, and hence the last one with the wxWidgets interface as default.

Well, obviously 0.8.6d was NOT the last of this series since we are up to h now. So does anyone know if the Quick Update Feature will be returning anytime soon to VLC? Even better would be an automatic update check.

There is a new and improved one in the Qt4 interface for the 0.9.0 development versions. The new 0.8.x releases are primarily just bugfix releases.

Yes, 0.8.6 udpate didn't do all the secure handshakes that could cause security issues (like firefox 2.0.0.7).
