Regrettably, we were unable to restore 10.3.9 compatibility again for various reasons, so we had to move on and drop its support one release earlier than actually planed. We know that there are still people out there using Mac OS X 10.3, but since this share is shrinking we decided to use feature introduced in later releases to provide an even better VLC experience. OS X 10.4 was released almost 2.5 years ago, so in my opinion, it's reasonable to focus on it, as we want to add 10.5 specific features and wouldn't be able to support 3 major releases of OS X at the same time.
