VLC Media Player shows only a blue screen when I play video?

Postby Guest » 01 Sep 2004 10:14

When I run any kind of video with my VLC Media Player V.0.7.2 the video is plaing but it's only a blue screen shown. I didn't change any preferences of VLC, I got the latest catalyst drivers for my Radeon 9600 Pro, my System is an Athlon-XP 2600+ working with windows XP. I had the same problem with my last system and VLC. My Windows Media Player, same as PowerDVD Player are working without any problems.
What can be that stupid problem I have?
Thx a lot for any help and sorry for my bad english

Hello,

First try to delete your vlc preferences files ( c:\documents and settings\YOU\Application Data\vlc\vlcrc)

If it does not fix it, try disabling overlay ( Preferences->Vidéo, deselect overlay output (you need advanced preferences to be checked )

Can't get VL player to work

Postby kempffc » 11 Sep 2004 20:36

I've tried both the suggestions you made for the other post but with no success, still can't get it to play anything. It's installed on an NT4 compaq laptop with all proper drivers as far as I can tell.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

DO you have the latest DirectX for NT4, as well as the latest vendor video drivers? (You said you had drivers, but it wasn't clear about DirectX).

There doesn't seem to be a DirectX version for NT4 Worrkstation, is there something else that might work ?

DirectX 6 worked on NT 4.0, not sure about 7 or 8.

DirectX 6 doesn't seem to be available as a download any more, only a DirectX 6 Software Development Kit, I can't seem to find dowloads for 7 or 8 either, only 9 available and it doesn't list NT4 in the compatibility list. I gather this is a requirement to get VL player working
