No DVD menus preference

Every time I open a DVD, VLC shows "Use DVD menus" as selected. I always turn this off. I would like to make that the default behaviour -- no menus. I looked in the preferences and under Access modules/DVD with menus, I unselected "Start directly in menu". However, when I insert a DVD and I want to open it, the "Use DVD menus" is still selected. Is there not any way to make unselected the default? Thanks.
