0.8.6-bugfix Vista? XP?

Hello,

We are preparing another bugfix version for VLC 0.8.6.

We would like that people running Vista and XP try an test the Direct3D output module and give us the usual feedback.

Please tell the graphic driver before and the OS version.

I just tested it.

OS: Windows Vista Business 64.
Graphics card: ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
Driver: 8.31.100.32 (latest from HP)
Mode: DirectX 3D video output

Results: Sound but no video.
Files tested: Xvid and WMV

I really hope you guys can figure this out. I love how lightweight VLC Player is compared to other media players.

Seems to be working okay. The Xvid file played fine, and the WMV kind of took a little bit to load but played. I used the DirectX 3D output mode.

Any chance of a 64bit version of VLC?

It probably won't matter since the codecs within VLC are what use the CPU/GPU to process the video not VLC itself, therefore, adding 64bit compatibility won't make any difference.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit and it neither works with the 8.6a Version nor the 8.6b Version of the VLC Media Player. The sound works fine, but the Video makes problems. If I open a movie, the video works for one second, and then it suddenly fades black. If I press the Pause button and the Play button again, it works again for one second, but then it fades black again.
I've installed the latest graphic drivers for my graphic card (GeForce 7900 GS) and all the Movies I've tried, worked fine back in Windows XP.
Does someone have a solution for this?
And sorry for my bad English (I'm german...)

What type of files have you tried? Did you switch to DirectX 3D? To do so, click Settings -> Preferences -> Video -> Output Modules. Check Advanced Options at the bottom, then choose DirectX 3D. Click Save, and reopen your file.

If that doesn't work, it could be because I have an ATI graphics card.

An .avi-file and a .mpg-file (The mpg-File worked fine in the Windows Media Player, but not in VLC Media Player)

I've switched the Output Module to OpenGL, and now the video works fine.

Nope, 64bit version of VLC will come when our compiler will switch to 64 bits.

I confirm that apr 12 build fixed the problem. Vieweing in Directx3d with directx use hardware yuv- rgb enabled.
Aero is fine and cpu usage is 11-15%. Pretty good..

What was the problem? It seems that overlays are more blended in the picture... maybe im just seeing things It would be cool if you give us more details of how the fix was implemented (saving from diffing the sources )

aaaactually... even tho it works... quality is well.. emm.. rubish!
Everything is blurred.. sharpness is reduced considerably.. (thats why i thought overlays were blended). Plain DirectX has MUCH better sharpness

Any thoughts?
