Selecting a different screen for output

Postby quintesse » 01 Apr 2007 01:29

I'm trying to get the video to display on my external television when switching to fullscreen but so far I have been unable to get it to work.

I don't have a Xinerama setup, but a plain separate X screen, no cloning, no extended desktop, just an empty screen to show my video. The setup works, I can get apps to display on it by setting DISPLAY=:0.1 (VLC will display on that monitor when started with that DISPLAY value, but I want the control interface to stay on the primary screen so that's not an option)

So I've been fiddling around with the various "Screen for fullscreen mode" settings but none of them work. I can set whatever screen number I like, it will always display on the primary screen. Alternate fullscreen method will just fail to show anything.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

VLC media player 0.8.6a Janus
Fedora Core 6
NVidia 6600GT with dual DVI output (nvidia driver 9755)

same problem =/

"screen for fullscreen mode" sounds like exactly the option we want, but i have the same experience as you - no matter the setting or output module selection, nothing changes.

VLC media player 0.8.6c (wxWidgets)
Ubuntu 7.10
Nvidia 7900GT (100.14.19)

Yeah, never was able to get it to work with VLC, in the end I started using Xine with a separate configuration. So depending on which icon I use to start Xine it will either display the output on screen 0 or on screen 1. It's not ideal but it's the best I could do.

try the option xvideo-display in xvideo options (it is an advanced option i guess)

If you refer to the "Screen for fullscreen mode" in the "X11" section of the Video->Output modules preferences I already did that, but it does not seem to have any effect. The output will always appear on screen 0, fullscreen or not.

(BTW: I wonder, why do the names in the Video->Output modules->Video output module dropdown not correspond to the names of the modules that appear when you expand the Output modules node in preferences tree? Does anyone know?)
