Create subtitles for .ogg?

Create subtitles for .ogg?

Postby Pomac » 22 Feb 2007 21:36

I am having some trouble when it comes to creating subtitles for a .ogg file. It's a very shot vidoe (15 minutes) and I have a transcript of what is said so I thought I'd simply do this in a .txt file.

What I have done is basicly created a file (.txt) with the same filename as the video file (.ogg). Then I have written the subtitles like this:

1
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:04,000
Text here

2
00:00:05,000 --> 00:00:08,000
Text here
Ect.

Then I load the video in VLC and click Video->Subtitles->Track 1. However, nothing is shown. I have done in the past and it has worked fine (at least for .avi vidoes). What is wrong? I always thought it was a function in VLC that allowed .txts to be displayed on the screen. It's very important that I manage to create a subtitle track for this video. If anyone know what I am doing wrong or could tell me another way to do it, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

This is an excerpt of a text based sub:

{1}{75}"text"
{926}{1043}"text"
{1047}{1144}"text"
{1148}{1226}"text"
{1293}{1343}"text"
{1375}{1444}"text"

As you can see it is frame based and not time based.

This is also an excerpt of a text based format:

00:00:00:text
00:00:10:text
00:00:24:text
00:00:29:text
00:00:34:text
00:00:36:text
00:00:39:text
00:00:45:text

Please note there are no end times.

Both of these forms are recognized by VLC.

Thanks! That will work fine.

But if there are no end times, does that mean that one line of text will stay displayed until the next one replaces it? That will appear wierd during long silent periods. For this vidoe that is not a hugh problem though, thanks!
