Roku HD-1000 and VLC

Postby kalhua » 19 Jun 2004 04:21

I have just purchased a Roku HD-1000 and would like to be able to receive video from my Computer/DVB-S combo. I emailed Roku and they provided me with the following answer:

The HD1000 currently supports ATSC MPEG2 Transport Streams. If you media
is being saved as such, this should work just fine with the Stream Player
application (See this link for more info:
http://www.rokulabs.com/support/downloa ... alapps.php)

Is VLC a component needed in order to make this setup work? Or is it not possible. Any info would be greatly appreciated

VLC is certainly up to the job of streaming from a DVB-S card over an ethernet network, e.g: to your HD1000. Or saving it into a local file that is remote accessible on your HD1000.

For the streaming you need a client that can read from an ethernet network.

Roku and VLC

Well that is good news! I dont know alot about what I am trying to do. If you would be so kind to give me a few more pointers I would greatly appreciate it. I have the Roku hooked up to the network and functioning as it should. I have also downloaded the availible files from the Roku site and set them up to run on the Roku. I would prefer to stream instead of a file if it is possible. Thanks again for your reply as it gives me hope that I can make it work somehow.

One item I failed to mention.... I am using a Windows based machine. It seems when I check the features for VLC it says under inputs that DVB-S is not supported in a windows environment. So am I dead in the water.... I will continue to read the DOCS for this program :)

Thanks

DVB-S on windows is only supported if it's available trough the windows directshow system. Ergo the manufacturer needs to have written directshow drivers for the card. Than it works as any other directshow component.
Don't use PMs for support questions.
