Password on the http web interface

Plase help me:

there is any way to protect via password the acces to the http web interface under Windows ?
I mean the whole directory and subdirectories.

I guess this should work in windows too. But it does not protect sub directory.

Thanks for your answer, but: do you have any idea how this system works ?
I've tried to build a .access file such a test.access with username and password without results.
I guessed this system work just on Linux machine...correct me if I'm wrong !

Just create a file named ".access".

what folder do you put it in?

\VideoLAN\
VLC\
http

i have it all 3 right now, it works but cant seem to figure which is in the right folder....

weird...
