VLC Videooutput Scaling... durring Playback via Shortcut?

Postby WeberAndre » 24 Dec 2006 15:06

Hello,

I'am using VideoLan (current Version) for my HTPC to Play DVD's now I have got a 40 inch LCD-TV with the resolution of 1280x768 Pixel (its self made so don't ask for a brand name see link at the end)
Before I used my old TV with TV-Out so I didn't had the problem.

Some DVD's I have are encoded with black Borders on the left and right side. Have a look a this Picture:

this shows what I mean.

A possible Solution for me would be to scale the Video up a little bit but the option below settings is not useable for me ... because not all videos have this problem. It would be very nice to increase oder decrease the scale via shortcut with a custom stepsize lets say 5 percent for example.
The current option scale output seems only to work in window mode - but I use fullscreenmode.

Thank you very much :-) and last but not least I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a nice time... until the end of the year *g*

I hope they (borders on left and right) are not part of video. You can use another mediplayer to confim that. But VLC shouldn't add those borders either on full screen (and VLC cropping shouldn't cause or help those either).

Mmh the black borders on the left and right side seem to be part of the mpeg stream (this is a bought DVD) my standalone player seems to autodetect and crop this.
PowerDVD and VideoLan doesn't recognize this ... and put these black borders to screen...

Commercial DVD only add letterbox to top and bottom of screen when the source has wide screen content (16x9) for compatibility to 4x3 TVs. Most Wide screen TVs have adjustments to do away with these. There are no borders to the left and or right of the picture. If the DVD is full screen (4x3) it will show up with borders on the left and right of the picture on a wide screen TV. There is no way to correct for this and maintain the aspect ratio.

Also TV Overscan feature eats parts from video (thats why you don't prolly see those black bars on TV when using DVD-player.)

@VLC_help
thats right - but on my good LCD TV these black borders on left and right become visible...

as temporary work around I use the pixel crop on left an right side..
with the shortcut ALT+J und ALT+L (or SHIFT+ALT+J and SHIFT+ALT+J)... it would be nice to crop one Pixel from left and right with only one shortcut ... that would ne enough to solve my problem...
