New high definition public license video codec

Postby sankt » 23 May 2004 03:53

Dirac is a general-purpose video codec aimed at resolutions from QCIF (180x144) to HDTV (1920x1080), progressive or interlaced. It uses wavelets, motion compensation and arithmetic coding, and aims to be competitive with other state-of-the-art codecs. The Open Source implementation provides a C++ library with an encoder and decoder.

Project launhed by the British Broadcasting Corporation Research and Developement deptartment.

The Dirac software source code is licenced under the Mozilla Public License Version 1.1.
