Logitech MX5000 Keyboard Media Button Opening VLC Help????

I have been trying to get my new Keybaord which is a Logitech MX5000 to open Video Lan via the touch sensitive Media button on the left side of the keyboard. It will open Windows Media Player, iTunes, Winamp, etc. yuck. I was wondering if anyone out there has found a way to make it work with Video Lan??

I have read these posts and they did not work with Setpoint 2.60.606.

Just opening is easy, just set the Task for the media button to "Launch Program" instead of "Default" if it's not in the default dropdown list, and then manually point the button to VLC. (That's how I do it on my MX3000 with setpoint 2.60.606)
If the play/stop/whatever buttons don't work, I don't know how to fix that :/.

The MEDIA button will open Video Lan when you map the MEDIA button to a specific program using SetPoint, but then the play/pause, stop, next, & previous and zoom touch sensitive buttons dont work with program associated with the MEDIA button or Video Lan in my case.

Actually I mapped it to a different button and just use the Media button for Winamp (the touch sensitive buttons work with Winamp) but Video Lan is a must better Media Player than any other out there.

If anyone has any idea please let me know.

Well you said 'open', so there we are.
Anyhow, I noticed SetPoint is at 3.0.107 now, I've downloaded and installed the update, but too lazy too reboot right now to see if VLC has been added.

I guess we should send a mail to request VLC support :).

For some reason I cannot get that version by going to the MX5000 Downloads on Logitech's site. Also, it doesn't say it is for Bluetooth.


I guess we do need to ask for Video Lan Support.

Well I just let the auto updater in setpoint do it's job, and it downloaded 3.0.107.

Anywho, I asked Logitech about VLC:

I understand that you would like to know whether the VideoLan Client media player will be supported by the future releases of the SetPoint software.

The current version of the SetPoint software for the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX3100 does not support VideoLan Client media player. Only the following media players are supported by the SetPoint software.

• Windows CD Player
• Windows Media Player up to version 9.x
• MUSICMATCH(tm) versions 4.x up to 8.1
• RealOne Player
• Creative PlayCenter versions 1.5, 2.x and 3.0
• WinAmp 2.x and WinAmp 3
• Sonic CinePlayer versions 1.0 and 1.5
• PowerDVD 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0
• Intervideo WinDVD 2.x, 4.0 and 5.1
• Quick Time 6.0 and 6.4
• iTunes 4.1

However, the future release of the SetPoint software may support Video LAN Client media player. I will forward your concern to the Logitech development department for further consideration.
