DTS was removed for legal reasons in VLC 0.8.2 and has not reappeared until now (0.8.5). The issue with S/PDIF has been resolved in VLC 0.8.5 but this is conditional on your audio card and drivers and the setting in Preferences, Audio, Output modules from the pull down select "Win32 waveOut extension output" then press Save and close the player.
