Multicast from Windows Media Server

Postby magistral » 09 May 2006 13:47

I am multicasting from a Windows Server 2003 using Media Services 9.0. I can view the multicast using Windows media Player and Real Player but VLC refuses to connect to the stream and display it.

I've tried the following methods in the Open - Network tab:

UDP/RTP Multicast - udp://@239.192.34.142:19523

HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS - http://<server name>/LiveMulticast.nsc
(this is how Media Player connects)

Has anyone done this or know if it can be made to work ?

I have appended the VLC logs below.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

We have decryption for .nsc files in VLC but we're not using the decrypted data to do anything yet :D That's still in our todo list.

how to multicast...

Postby 24meujtfe » 16 Jul 2006 12:38

Magistral -
I'm trying to set up multicasting here on my Windows Media Server for a deployed USMC unit. I'm having a big problem...I can unicast just fine but multicasting craps out on me. Once I start WMS, each and every user can connect to the multicast once and only once, then never again. I had to change the WMS HTTP protocol point to multicast because it conflicted with the default IIS port for the webpage. How did you get yours to multicast? This thing has been driving me nuts....and with no clear line of sight to WMP being able to view a VLC multicast stream, I'm kind of up a creek until I figure out WMS. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Is it because WMS uses proprietary, MS-MSBP protocol for multicast streaming?
It is an IP of MS.

IMO, it's different from RTSP or plain UDP.
