Problem playing Ogg Vorbis stream - audio dropout

Postby Leo_C » 27 Apr 2006 14:05

Hi -

I'm having a problem playing back Ogg Vorbis streams (from Icecast).
Whenever the metadata changes, the audio stops briefly.
This does not happen using some other players, e.g. Winamp or XMMS,(Although FWIW the same problem can be observed using e.g. Rhythmbox)

Tested with 0.8.4 on Ubuntu and 0.8.4b on WinXP:
Using this stream: http://212.72.165.20:9020/radiosix.ogg

You can also reproduce this problem if you have Icecast - force a metadata change from icecast's web admin interface in the middle of a song.

Is this a bug?

Could you try a nightly build and tell us if the bug is still there ? ( http://nightlies.videolan.org )

The audio stream is interrupted. the old "track" becomes invalid, and a new one needs to be added and the decoder needs to be reinitialized. It's caused by the way the streaming occurs. Instead of a continious encoding of vorbis, a new encode is started for each song (playback of a song).

So will this be added as a bug into Trac?

Thanks

Just wondering if this bug has been added to trac yet?

Thanks.

Me again!

I wonder if this problem will ever be added as a bug into Trac? I guess I'll just keep hoping!

Incidentally, it seems that the same problem is evident when playing back static files - I have created an example file and uploaded it to the FTP server:

ftp://streams.videolan.org/incoming/cha ... rupted.ogg

Same time next week then?

[BUG]

It seems that the GStreamer people have had a similar problem:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=320984

On that page there is a link to another Ogg file that plays incorrectly with VLC:
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/media/ ... chains.ogg

Ok, I'm fed up flogging this thread now. Bye.
