.pls streams choppy in versions > 0.8.1

I did a search on ".pls audio choppy" in the forums and came up pretty empty.

This issue I'm having is that streaming audio in .pls format stopped working correctly in versions after 0.8.1. The newer versions when opening a .pls file will play the audio but it will be choppy cutting in and out in intervals of less than a second, and indeed making it impossible to listen to the stream. Is there a setting I am overlooking to rectify this error?

In the mean time I've stuck to using 0.8.1 which just works for most any type of file I play
