VideoLan Streaming

Postby philipsdenim » 24 Feb 2006 07:33

Hi,

Can anyone give me some idea to stream a wmv9(VC1) file through VLC? At present i can stream it using "http" mode (in streaming option of VLC) but i want to stream it under RTSP or UDP.

How will be the setup for sever and client mode in VLC

Thanks in anticipation...

My thought would be that you're dealing with NAT (router) issues. UDP/RTP/RTSP do just fine if both computers are on the same network (i.e. in 192.168 land on the LAN, or if both computers are on an outside connection). HTTP provides functionality to traverse through routers, however (i.e. it would be difficult for a good chunk of computer users to view web pages if that weren't the case). It is indeed slower than other streaming options.

I'm told it's something the VideoLAN developers are working on - faster streaming through routers and such.
