Can VOD with http but not rtsp. Please help!

So I've set up an apache server on my computer, 192.168.0.103 With that server running, I can acces the video files on vlc client computers with file/open http://192.168.0.103:80/filename.divx no problems!

But I can't for the life of me get the rtsp protocol to work! I connect to the telnet server with host 192.168.102:80 and I've also tried 192.168.0.103:5554 neither seems to work! I feel like I've tried every possible combination. Nothing seems to open the videos.

My telnet code is

new tape vod enabled setup tape filename.divx

I've also tried direct paths in the telnet code "D:\videos\divx\filename.divx" that doesn't work either.

I'm at a loss here!

Anyone have any thoughts on what to try?

My server is set to listen at port 80. Does that need to be changed? I also can't access the rtsp files on the server computer either...

I'm pulling out my hair spending 30 hours in the past 2 days trying to figure this out to no avail! (Although I've made tons of progress as it at least now works quite well with the http:192.168.103:80/filename.divx protocol.

IF it matters, all machines are running xpPro SP2

I just realized the code I entered in the first post, 2nd line should read
setup tape input filename.divx


Anyone have any ideas to try!?

I have noticed that when anyone gets close to suggesting VoD in these forums it gets real quiet. You might try posing your query in a different manner. The same is true of someone wanting to capture a DVD.

Well I got it to work! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. You guys really helped me out!

If anyone should read this in the future, what I did to get it to work was I had to allow an exception for windows Firewall on the client pc's and I also had to use the complete file paths, even though just the local filename worked for the http stream, in order to use the rtsp, I had to include the entire path!
