Apple remote

Postby jurepanta » 07 Oct 2024 15:21

Hi,

I am VLC user for long time, probably since 2000 or less. It is the best video player and I love to keep it and help to contribute.
Recently I have been experimenting with iptv streams, and apple tv remote control for controlling the VLC on OSX (macOS),
and the apple remote control works great. I made the ir receiver myself watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXUt_SC1Vtw

Apple remote only has 6 buttons for control: VolumeUp, VolumeDown, Forward, Backward, Play/Pause and Menu button.
In VLC the menu button has two functions, if you press and hold menu button VLC switches to fullscreen, if
you only press the menu button, VLC shows you the time of video being played in the right corner.
Fullscreen mode can also be achieved if you quickly (double) press play/pause button.

If it would be possible to change the menu button to have a different purpose, that would be great.
For example: I would like to have ability to change Random on/off when I press the menu button,
and when I press and hold the menu button to be able to Mute audio or to have some other function.

Is this possible and easy to implement in VLC and since it is an open-source project could I be able to make this change and rebuild it myself for OSX to change this functionality?

Thanks in advance,

Jure Panta
