VLC subtitles will show symbols sometimes, but it depends on which one I use

This isn't really that big of an issue but when I create an SRT and use the ♥ symbol, VLC on my iPhone fails to recognize it and just shows a square. However, it does recognize the ♡ symbol. In fact, when I put the ♡ symbol in front of the ♥ symbol, suddenly the subtitles can show the ♥ properly. But if I put the ♥ symbol in front of the ♡ symbol, it becomes a square again. I'll provide 4 examples below of the SRT lines to give a visual representation.

1st:
1
00:00:00,122 --> 00:00:01,056
I ♡ VLC!

2nd:
1
00:00:00,122 --> 00:00:01,056
I ♡♥ VLC!

3rd:
1
00:00:00,122 --> 00:00:01,056
I ♥ VLC!

4th:
1
00:00:00,122 --> 00:00:01,056
I ♥♡ VLC!

With the 1st example, the subtitles work fine. In the 2nd example, the subtitles also work perfectly. In the 3rd example, the ♥ appears as a square. Lastly, in the 4th example, the ♥ appears as a square while everything else appears as it should. As I said, this issue isn't major, just sort of odd and kind of annoying. Is there any explanation for this? And if so is there any way to make the ♥ symbol appear properly without the aid of the ♡ symbol?
