Password Prompt after version 3.5.4 update

Postby waynezo » 02 Mar 2023 11:12

VLC on Firestick 4K and 4K Max was working fine on SMB share with Win 7 computer. Nowafter the 2/20/23 update to ver 3.5.4 It sees the computer at first but loses it once I navigate away from the network tab on VLC. After viewing 4 or 5 videos it starts prompting me for password over and over. Win 7 is configured to not need password. I can get it working again by restarting the app with the VLC or the Firestick settings menu, but the same symptoms reappear. I have tried resetting and reinstalling VLC. Is there a fix?

Just to say - I'm getting exactly the same issue with Windows 10 and Windows 11.

Edit: It's driving me nuts!

ok - so I can't back out from the player once it gets caught in the login loop, as there's no user/pass to enter, so I can't get back to the main menu to get at the debug logfile, not without exiting via the firesticks home button and then re-entering VLC. Which means that log keeps disappearing before I can get to it. However, 3.5.3 works fine on the firestick for accessing my two servers (one for video - win10 - and one for music - win11). Uninstall VLC first, then I used the "download" app to download from:

https://get.videolan.org/vlc-android/3.5.3/

and get this file:

VLC-Android-3.5.3-armeabi-v7a.apk

Installing that and then going to the main app section on the firestick and turning off auto-updates should cure this until it's fixed.
