Can I get info on a TV episode or movie?

I don't expect to find this feature in VLC, but I figured I could always ask and maybe there is a plugin for it. I'm most interested in using it on Apple TV.

Is there any way to display show information that matches a file name for a TV episode or a movie? For instance, if I have a file named "Ghostbusters-1984.mpg," or, for a TV example, "Stargate_SG1 1997 S01E03," it might download and display info on that file, like the episode title or a summary of the plot, like I might find on TVDB.com or IMDB.com?

While I don't expect this to be available in any way in VLC itself, I'm wondering if there might be a way, through a plugin or something, to do this.
