How to increase the sout-mux-caching or remux without transcoding?

Postby Theofilos » 23 Jan 2023 18:56

Hello

The "bug tracker" suggests to either increase sout-mux-caching or to do a remux without transcoding.

Where and how are these two things done?

Where can I increase the sout-mux-caching value?
How can I perform a remux without transcoding?

The idea is to add an MP4 audio file (audio only), to an MP4 video file (video only).
The result is supposed to be a video with audio.

I choose "Media > Convert/Save ..." or "Media > Stream ..."
Then add a video file, then "Show more options" and "Play another media ..." and I add an audio file.
And then what?

Regards

For the cache (file caching in your case):
Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show Settings = ALL) -> Input/Codecs
Then scroll down to Advanced/File Caching on the right panel.
Save, exit and restart VLC for the changes to take effect.

For a remux without transcoding, edit the profile of your choice with the tool button and select "Keep original track" from both the video and audio tabs.
