HDTV MPEG-2 Artifacts

Postby Guest » 15 Jan 2006 01:58

I've been capturing HDTV shows on my PC and converting them to regular .mpg files using an app called VideoRedoPlus. When I watch them on my PC using Media Player Classic they look fine.

I stream them over the net to a Power Mac G5 which is hooked up to a video projector. I use VLC to watch them on the projector. The problem is every few seconds there's a glitch in the decoding. It is either just a small white square that flashes once, or occasionally a trail of broken pixels. Since the files play fine on my PC I'm guessing it's a VLC problem, but I'm not sure what to do.

BTW, VLC rocks! We also have the QuickTime MPEG-2 decoder plugin and it drops frames like crazy and just generally looks awful. It doesn't have the white square/pixel trail problem though.
