Minimum Requirements PC to run 4 VLC Players At Once

Postby Dieter1982 » 30 May 2022 10:26

Dears,

I would like to use VLC Media Player to have 4 screens at once displayed on one big screen.
Now I have a "small pc" - Intel Atom x5-Z8350 Quad Core 1.84 GHz, 4GB RAM, 64GB eMMC, Intel HD Graphics.

Its able to run 2x VLC Media Players at once, but once I start a 3rd one it starts lagging.

Does anybody have suggestions on running multiple VLC Players at once and to what PC requirements I should upgrade?

I'm looking for a cost effective solution - since its just to take to the race track for timing, etc... all are SD channels.

Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Dieter

Get at least an Intel i7 and a recent dedicated video card.

eMMC won't cut it for what you're trying to do. Here's why: https://www.windowscentral.com/emmc-vs-ssd

Hi Hitchhiker,

The small PC I have is able to play 2 VLC Players at once, wouldn't a PC with more RAM Memory cut it?

I have read the article and somewhat I can understand, however also in the article it says:
"If you need a tablet or affordable notebook for browsing the internet and watching some streaming media, eMMC storage should be just fine."

I was looking on buying this one:
Windows 10 Pro Mini PC, Compute Stick, PC Stick met Intel J4125, 8GB RAM, 128GB eMMC, Intel UHD Graphics 600 met 4K op 60 Hz Support, Windows 11 pro compatibel

You need a dedicated GPU such as Nvidia with its own RAM. Intel graphics has to share memory with the CPU the latter of which has priority over other processes.

Also, the Intel J4125 is a Celeron processor. OK for menial tasks but not for processes where computational power is required.

The price of the mini pc in your link is enough to tell you that you won't be getting anything near what's required for graphics processing. Try Informatique.nl
I've dealt with them before and they're very helpful if you explain what you want to do.
