VLC Android 3.4.4 Hi-Res FLAC compatability on nVidia Shield 9.0.1

Can anybody please confirm if the latest version of VLC Android plays native 24bit/192 Khz FLAC over HDMI without downsampling? Unfortunately my audio receiver does not show the bitrate/frequency. As you know the latest nVidia Shield has an option called “Match content audio resolution” meant to send hi-res audio over HDMI without downsampling. I wonder if VLC is taking advantage of that. Also, I am guessing I should set VLC audio passthrough to on but is that necessary for hi-res audio?
