Can VLC do 2-pass transcoding?

Postby tefal » 11 Jan 2006 13:08

Hi there!

I'm new to VLC and i want to ask can VLC do 2-pass transcoding? (i hope i'm posting this question in the correct forum)

Yes, I did doc and forum serach, and didn't find a single word on this topic, but still? Or, at least, any chances of 2-pass transcoding in (near) future version?

Any info would be helpful!

cheers

Experimental multipass encoding with x264 should be available as of 20070305 in the nightly builds. There's no way of doing multipass from the GUI in one go yet but basically you need to set up a 1st and 2nd pass using the x264 options, whilst using the generated stats file.

Multipass only works with files not live streaming.
