Taking focus and becoming black for 1-3 seconds when changing track

Postby DynV » 13 Oct 2021 12:05

On my new Amazon Fire 8, I installed VLC to play for the vast majority audio files I grab from the 2nd largest website, which sounds a bit like jujube. It's to focus on something else while listening; so the audio is to block audio distractions and make the main (visual) task a bit more pleasant.

Well... I was hoping so. It turns out that every time the track change, VLC takes focus and displays something. The 1st times it was a guide/howto/tutorial, which I didn't have time to see as by the time I was either ready to focus on it or take a screenshot (SS) of it, it was gone. I decided to be ready, so I placed the track almost to its end then fingers on the SS buttons. After a few track changes I got a good SS. The next track change, I pressed the dismiss button, and that stopped showing. However instead it's now black, or very dark, with seems monochrome.

So I go back before the track changes (to dismiss the howto) hoping the issue resolved. For a good amount of time VLC didn't take focus; I then started doing so again (when changing tracks displaying only black).

This has me thinking VLC looks for a thumbnails (TN) for the track, and as there's none, it displays black instead. Although I disabled both options to have the blurred TN shown in VLC, as well as the options that the latest TN to be shown as the unlocking background. Before the TN changes, disabled broadcasting (thinking that was the problem instead).

Since in this instance VLC is meant to be used to help focus on something else, but instead takes focus, which is quite unproductive, it's unacceptable and need to be fixed.

Am I right that the thumbnails is the issue? If not, what could it be? In either case: How can I stop VLC taking focus?

Thank you kindly

I am sorry, but I am not sure I understand your issue.

What is the app version you are using?

Could you please take a videos/screenshots of your issue and share it (for example on Google Drive)?

All of these screenshots were taken right after the black screen I mentioned in

and this is what I referred in

So, if I understand well, you are playing video files from your device. When starting the playback, you choose "Play as audio" to only get the audio. And when the track changes, it goes back to video mode. Am I right?
