“VLC" is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash

Postby ArmyChief » 04 Sep 2021 20:01

Can someone advise me how to fix the above error when I install the Mac M1 ARM 64 nightly builds?
I've tried everything I can think of:

Install the current version 3.0.16, then install the nightly build
Use AppDelete
Install just the Nightly build
Use AppDelete
Reinstall the current version (which always works)

I researched the error and they talk about its the new security on MacOS (Big Sur) & M1. That if I open finder and CTRL-Click on the file it will bypass and save my selection. I've tried that as well.

I only get this error with the nightly builds. i got to believe there is something I need to do to allow them to work. No way all the nightly builds are damaged.

Any help to fix this error would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

If you remove the quarantine attribute, it launches just fine.
Run this from the Terminal.

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/VLC.app
