VLC video stops while audio continues

I have started seeing this in the last week. I'm running MacOS 10.15.7 (there was a new update this week, but it was after this issue began) and VLC 3.0.11.1 Vetinari (Intel 64bit). I'm running on a brand new MacBook Pro with lots of memory and a very fast CPU. I checked for an update but did not get one. I also looked at the download page, and 3.0.11.1 appears to be the latest version.

Every so often, the video freezes but the audio continues. After 10 seconds or so, the video resumes. I found some old posts on this topic, but they were 9 years old so I thought I should start a new one. I thought it might be a corrupted file, but now I have seen it on multiple files, I think on all files.
