VLC skips to next song after X amount of time

Using VLC on an iMac with a google chromecast audio, this setup has worked well for about 1/2 year until a couple days ago.

The behavior I'm seeing now is that it will play a song for ~2 mins and then skip to the next song, it will start playing the next song for ~2 mins and the pattern repeats.

Did some searching and saw where folks mentioned a somewhat similar behavior but even those threads found no solution.

Hoping someone has encountered this problem and can give some help on how to fix it. Already tried rebooting to make sure everything was running from a fresh start.
