VLC 3.0.11 and 3.0.11.1 casting fails after a few minutes of play

Postby wstrnstar » 29 Aug 2020 19:55

VLC 3.0.11 and 3.0.11.1, casting any disk-resident video format to Chromecast begins normally then the stream fails after anywhere between 3-10 minutes and the blue 'cast' icon comes on the tv screen. VLC does not crash or indicate any kind of error occurred, it just stops casting. There are no problems with just watching videos on the laptop, only when casting. Identical behavior using two different chromecast dongles and using two different macbooks (both running Mojave 10.14.6). regressing to 3.0.10 fixes the problem.

has anyone seen anything like this and ifso pls comment?

I'm on Mojave 10.14.6, using VLC 3.0.11, and my videos stop casting (with the same blue icon on the screen and no error) after 30-32 seconds if I play from the beginning of the file. If I jump to another point in the video, it plays from that point uninterrupted, but jumping back to the beginning results in the same 30-second stop. I'm going to look for the 3.0.10 version and see if that clears things up for me as well.

Yup, downgrading to 3.0.10 did the trick.
