Intermittent Autoplay on BT headset connection

Occasionally when I connect my BT headset, VLC (3.2.12) starts playing. I have tried the Audio option Detect headset (insertion and removal) enabled and disabled but it makes no difference. I have "Resume on headset insertion" disabled.
Also how are headsets treated differently to other BT devices e.g. speakes, car radios etc.?

Could you please provide some logs?
Go in the Settings > Advanced > Debug logs > Start logging
Then reproduce the issue, dump logcat logs and attach the file here.
