VLC mutes and is unable to play in Catalina

Postby anders » 02 Jul 2020 09:23

Dear VLC community:
I am using VLC do to some audio transcription work for my research. I type in Libre office and play in VLC and use the F8 key to pause and play.
However when I need to rewind and perform CMD + tab to VLC I sometimes loose the audio and I am unable to restore it without force quitting VLC.
So to clarify I rewind and then audio gets muted and I need to restart VLC to be able to play again. The file I am playing is a wav file but I tried to convert it to mp4 and mp3 with the issue remaining.
I should also mention that the file/files are stored on a Sharefile cloud service or an external drive. But the problem is the same on both volumes. I have not tried to save them locally and play.
I am on Catalina 10.15.5 and VLC 3.0.11 Vetenari (intel 64).
Kind regards
Anders

Can you try the last nightly build of 3.0.x, please?

Hello, I am having a similar issue where the video is MUTED and then when I try to quit VLC, the app freezes. It happens when I first double click a video file in Finder (mp4 file), video plays fine with audio. But when I then pause it, and then drag the play duration slider to the beginning of the video. And then when I hit Play again, there is NO sound. When I try to quit, VLC becomes frozen (black colored app), and thus I have to force quit.

Again, it only happens when I try to rewind the video file to play from beginning. Once I do force quit, and double click the file again in Finder, it plays properly in VLC.

Running OS X Catalina 10.15.5, VLC media player 3.0.11 Vetinari (Intel 64bit)

Hello again. I will check on this when I get back from vacation. But so far the nightly build was better. But I then lost the "play button" f8 function. But I understand that this can be configured.

I can concur with the same issue in VLC 3.0.11 on the Mac OSX El Capitan (11.6). I can play a video with audio once. Stop the video and start to play and audio will not work. Also have to Force Stop VLC to correct.
