ProRes 422 Performance

Hi all,

I'm doing a project that involves taking film stills from a couple hundred different ProRes 422 files.
The files open smoothly in Quicktime but VLC struggles to play any of them. It might go smoothly for a few seconds and then the image will totally lock up (while the scrub bar continues to progress).

Do you think there's anything to be done about this? I was hoping to use VLC's screenshot function. Any settings I might try changing to increase performance? I'm running VLC for Mac.
