Trimming and Editing Videos on Mac

I am using the 3.0.8 Version of VLC on Mac
According to several posts using VLC on Windows can be used to trim videos. These are referring to a "advanced controls" menu-entry that does not exist on Mac and can be used for cutting / triming videos.
The saying goes that the menu entries on the Mac are different, but the same features are available. But no matter how I tried, I could not find a feature with the same capability on the Mac.
Thus: is it possible to trim and add features with VLC on Mac and if so, where do I find the corresponding menu entries?
