VLC 3.2.6 - Undesired foreground appearance

Mainly in 3.2.x series (I am not sure exactly where) VLC has started to forcibly come to the foreground even when it is supposed to be in background.

For eg. I would be watching a movie. I am summoned by a manager. I will press the home button, lock the phone and go and attend to the matter. If I try to make a call, as soon as I unlock the phone VLC player would be there sometimes playing the video or other times just with the video paused.
It keeps doing it randomly after many events such as end of a phone call etc.

This happens even if I had paused the video before putting VLC to background.

This behaviour was also present in the previous release on Google Play.
