Play consecutive files?

Ive always used VLC player for many years. In the past I could load multiple, numbered, tv episodes and they would play back consistently. If I wanted to skip a file I would just click the advance/forward button and go to the next episode. This most recent version will not do that. I have to start each episode individually in order to watch them in order. Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?
